In the entire coordination between the piston group and the cylinder, the piston rings that truly come into contact with the cylinder wall are the ones that fill the gap between the piston and the cylinder wall to seal the combustion chamber. Therefore, they are also the most easily worn parts in the engine. The piston rings are generally made of cast iron, which has a certain elasticity, and have various cross-sectional shapes. The surface is coated to increase the running in performance. When the engine is running, the piston will expand due to heat, so there is an open gap between the piston rings. To maintain sealing during installation, the open gap positions of each piston ring should be staggered. A piston often has three to four piston rings, which are divided into two categories based on their different functions: gas rings and oil rings. The air ring is installed in the groove at the upper end of the piston head to prevent air leakage, transfer the heat from the piston head to the cylinder wall, and disperse the heat from the piston.
